E Cigarettes And Their Growing Popularity
25.06.2010 | Author: Donna Smithers | Posted in Smoking
Smoking has been around for a very long time, and since its creation the innovations in smoking technology have been extremely few, and many of the innovations that have been made have really only made it worse, with chemical additives being the biggest problem. However, the electronic cigarette is a new innovation that is poised to take the smoking world by storm, and is already on its way to doing just that. The electronic cigarette has been popping up in malls, gas stations, and rest stops across the country, and here is why.
To put it simply, an electronic cigarette is just that; it is an electronic item that allows a smoker to receive the nicotine that their body desires. However, unlike regular, tobacco based, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes do not use tobacco, smoke, fire, or any of the nearly thousand chemical additives put in cigarettes by most tobacco companies. Instead, it utilizes a special liquid known as e-liquid which is vaporized and puts the nicotine into the smoker’s body. E-liquid is composed, instead, largely of nicotine, water, and many different flavorings depending on the kind the smoker buys.
One thing that has helped propel e cigarettes into popularity is the fact that they are so easy for people to keep up with, and feature absolutely no mess. If you smoke a regular cigarette, you have to deal with your lighter, then an ash tray, then all of those nasty ashes, and then you have to get rid of the cigarette butt. It may seem like only a minor inconvenience, but a minor inconvenience is still an inconvenience. The only thing you have to keep up with with an electronic cigarette is the charger and e-liquid cartridge.
Cost efficiency is another big plus that the electronic cigarette has over conventional cigarettes. If you were to buy, for example, a pack of cigarettes to last you one whole day, not only are you taking in more tar, but you are wasting money. Most smokers who go through one pack a day say that one single e-liquid cartridge can last them for several days to a week. So the value of one cartridge of e-liquid definitely equals more than one pack of cigarettes.
The environment is another key point that makes the electronic cigarette such a great item for smokers. E-liquid contains primarily water, nicotine, and flavorings, none of which are harmful to the environment. There is also no second hand smoke, so you could also smoke in public places if you wish without worrying about a fine.
Resveratrol: A Vitamin Supplement That Fights Disease
29.06.2010 | Author: John Fleming | Posted in Anti-Aging
Resveratrol is being hailed as a vitamin supplement that fights everything from aging to cancer. A natural plant product, resveratrol can be found in blueberries, cranberries and red grapes. The antioxidant effects of resveratrol have been linked from everything to a boost in the metabolism to a stronger immune system.
While there are many natural sources of resveratrol in foods, red wine contains a healthy dose of resveratrol along with the heart healthy benefits of alcohol. Studies have shown that moderate amounts of alcohol in the diet increases the production of HDL cholesterol and helps to cut down on blood clots.
The benefits of an enhanced autoimmune system provided by resveratrol can benefit both those recovering from an illness as well as those who are currently already healthy. The extra protection of the bodys cells gained by resveratrol can boost the metabolism and can aid in losing weight.
There are even some good news in the fight against cancer. Recent studies have shown that resveratrol can slow down the growth of cancer cells and inhibit the creation of new ones. Alzheimer’s patients can also benefit from taking resveratrol because it has been shown to inhibit the dangerous effects of free radicals released by the oxidization of food in digestion.
Eating natural sources of resveratrol is always preferable to taking supplements and, fortunately, resveratrol can be found in abundance in many readily available fruits and vegetables. The health of your entire body will benefit because of the protection provided for the cells, the heart healthy effects of lowered LDL cholesterol and the increase in metabolism.
There is still a lot to be learned about the effects of resveratrol. Research is being done all over the world to investigate the effects of resveratrol on everything from cancer to anti-aging. The positive results suggested by these studies make it likely that resveratrol may be one of the most powerful antioxidant nutritional supplements ever discovered.
