Officers Honored for Heroic Deeds in Fire
Stamford, Connecticut (published March 16, 2009)
Two police officers were honored Monday for going above and beyond their duties in a heroic rescue that took place last month.
Sgt. Rich Phelan and Officer Ed Davis rescued a 2-year-old and his elderly grandmother from their burning home. They were honored by Senator Scott Franz, and were also given two golden keys to the state. The police officers were first responders after dispatch calls came in about a fire on Orange Street. The house was already engulfed in flames when the two arrived. Phelan and Davis chose to risk their lives and go into the burning building, rather than waiting for firefighters to show up.
“I think their bravery and heroism speaks volumes about the training and competence of the entire Stamford police force,” state Rep. Livvy Floren, said about the two officers.
